Johvi Interchange Reconstruction

2012 and 2013.

Project overview

In 2012 and 2013, the Johvi viaduct and its connecting ramps at km 1.71-2.32 on Main Road No. 3 Johvi-Tartu-Valga (E264) were reconstructed, with a construction value of nearly EUR 8.6 million.

See also the supervision video covering the full project.

As part of the project, the existing viaduct was replaced with a twin viaduct 246 metres in length. The new viaducts are structurally similar, with post-tensioned beam superstructures supported on V-shaped piers through bearings. The viaducts were founded on shallow foundations bearing on limestone. In addition, the Rakvere-Veski-Uus Street junction was rebuilt as a four-leg turbo roundabout, while the Rakvere-Kaare-Pargi Street junction was rebuilt as a three-leg turbo roundabout.

The project also included reconstruction of street lighting and relocation of utility networks obstructing construction of the viaduct, its approach ramps and intersections, including district heating pipelines, water pipelines, stormwater sewers, foul sewers, communications ducts and both medium- and low-voltage cables.
