Project overview
Construction of the Kukruse-Johvi section of the E20 Tallinn-Narva highway was carried out in 2009 and 2010, with a construction value of more than EUR 34 million.
As part of the project, the section between Kukruse and Johvi at km 155.9-163.2 was rebuilt into a Class I highway with a 2+2 cross-section and central median. A new road alignment south of the Kukruse ash hill was also built, together with 7.6 km of collector roads, grade-separated intersections at Kukruse (overpass over 90 m long), Tammiku (overpass over 70 m long) and Johvi (two overpasses each over 65 m long), as well as the junction at Aiandi (overpass over 80 m long), a pedestrian and bicycle path along the full reconstructed highway section, and two pedestrian bridges.
