Kurna-Luige Road Section

Construction of the Kurna-Luige section of Main Road No. 11 in 2014.

Project overview

In 2014, construction was carried out on the Kurna-Luige section of Main Road No. 11, with a construction value of nearly EUR 4.5 million.

The project rebuilt the section between the Kiili junction on the Tallinn ring road and the Luige interchange (km 16.0-17.8) into a four-lane 2+2 highway with a central median. A new left carriageway was added and the existing carriageway was converted into the left carriageway, enabled by construction of a new right carriageway. The crushed stone median between the two carriageways is 4 m wide. Drainage pipes were installed beneath the median to keep the embankment dry.

Crash barriers were installed along both edges of both carriageways over the full section for safety. At the Luige end, 250 m of noise barriers were added. The old culvert at the Sausti main ditch located in the middle of the site was replaced with a new 49 m steel culvert. A 47 m small-animal tunnel was built next to it. Utility networks crossing the road, including gas, water, pressure sewer and electricity, were relocated.
